Convenient Replacement Character is specifically about timing - a new character arriving just as an established character is being written out. The new character may be a Suspiciously Similar Substitute, but they don't have to resemble or overlap with the old character at all.
It doesn't apply to the situation the OP describes.

Hi guys. What's that trope, when relationship models, incl. attitudes and reactions between two characters from early seasons are reproduced in later seasons with another pair of characters? You know, like in Buffy, with Amy going all Mephistopheles on Willow in season 7, like Faith previously did on Buffy in season 3?
