Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
From the source code:
Before adding any more, stop by the discussion to see if there's a way to lump any additions in with other points so we can keep the list concise. Poor thing has been having trouble staying short and to the point, with various repetition. This page may get pruned for extra tips repetitious. Yes, we should emphasize some points, but this is TV Tropes, not a professional safety course. And remember; the more you write, the less they'll read. Writing a shorter more concise article is more likely to help people than thousands of words of guff.
So I suggest you to take the question to the discussion tab.
135 -> 180 -> 273 -> 191 -> 188 -> 230 -> 300 -> 311Absolutely not. It's baiting a Flame War - it is not this wiki's place to tell our users "what we really want," let alone to wade into an issue with a partisan statement like that.
You don't think? Hence why I wanted to ask first, I'll leave it.
Currently reading up My Rule Fu Is Stronger Than YoursI know for a fact that some people own guns that are essentially wall ornaments -old guns or ones with various degrees of scarcity. They collect them like some people collect dolls, stamps, or games. That doesn't fall into hurting anyone.
Coming back to where you started is not the same as never leaving. -Terry PratchettWas the matter resolved? The poster acknowledged that he wouldn't do it because we said "no" but in a tone that implied he still thought it would be acceptable. I think it was important to make it clear that this isn't a "it would be fine but we say no" issue, that it's actually completely unacceptable to add something like that.
Well I do personally apologize to every gun owner, every person who ever used a gun, for trying to think of a worthwhile addition to safety. Now lest you interpret or think my words can be twisted around to being condescending, I'm not. I realize it is a very touchy issue, with some believing their guns are going to be taken away. That's not what I'm here for. I just thought it would have been a good idea. If it does enrage the gun fans out there I'm happy to let it drop.
Edited by tsstevens Currently reading up My Rule Fu Is Stronger Than YoursI'm in two minds about the issue but we really would want any further discussion on the issue in the actual forum thread.

Thought this would be a good addition to Gun Safety.
Rule Zero: If you think you want a gun, you really don't. You'll only hurt yourself if you intend it to hurt others, and the lives you destroy if you intend it for yourself are not just your own.
Now say you do genuinely need a gun for your job, home security, ect.
I would just add it but this is very Serious Business and wanted to gain feedback from the experts here. Would that be a fair call? Deter wanting a gun in the first place?
