Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
Tropes for sporting events are rather tricky. If the event is unscripted — that is, it's actually people competing instead of acting out roles (hello, professional wrestling), then the rules about RL troping apply. Obviously, tropes having to do with marketing and production can still be used, but characterization and plot tropes should not. Subjectives are right out.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"So, for example, this is okay:
And these are not:
But how about things pertaining to the rules of the sport? For instance:
^A similar question was raised
regarding politicians. Does this mean we shouldn't try to determine whether or not something is part of a persona for them either?
The Rule Of Cautious Editing Judgement and the one about we don't gossip about RL people both apply here.
Coming back to where you started is not the same as never leaving. -Terry Pratchett^^ Obvious Rule Patch is fine, as rules systems are part of the production of a sport. Brand Names Are Better is applicable as it has to do with marketing. As you noted, however, And the Adventure Continues and Idiot Ball are not acceptable because they discuss the behavior of players, managers, fans, etc.
Politicians may be thought of as putting forth a persona in their public life, but that line is too narrow to be comfortable. Useful Notes pages for politicians should only list tropes commonly found in fictional works featuring them.
Edited by Fighteer "It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Okay, glad that's settled. I made an attempt at paring down the The World Cup tropes list to advertising and production tropes. I also cutlisted the Heartwarming, Tearjearker, Awesome, Funny, and YMMV subpages.
As an advertising trope, one would imagine. I didn't look at the specific examples to see if they are shoehorned, though: the FIFA example cited above is not, as written, an example of the trope.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Sorry to perform an act of thread necromancy, but this is something I wanted to point out when this subject came up but it fell by the wayside until now: UsefulNotes. The World Cup is not the only sporting event with Awesome/, Funny/, etc. subpages. Just to name a few for Awesome/, there's Awesome.Olympic Games, Awesome. The Stanley Cup, Awesome.Tour De France, Awesome.UEFA Champions League, and Awesome.Formula One, as well as the Awesome.Sports subpage of Awesome.Real Life.
So in the interest of having a consistent policy on this subject, I'd think either all of these pages should be cut as well, or Awesome. The World Cup and the other Sugar Wiki/ subpages of UsefulNotes. The World Cup should be restored.

While working on the Real Life People Cleanup Project
, I came across UsefulNotes.Wilt Chamberlain. Since we do trope sports, do examples on athletes' pages that refer specifically to sports count as works, or would they still be considered troping of real life? Also, what about subjective pages for athletes that concern sports?
Also, what's the policy on tropes on pages like UsefulNotes. The World Cup? It has three subpages of them, but then again, that in itself isn't proof that they're allowed...
