Quotes have their forum thread here. No opinion myself here.

As a matter of principle - should we allow page quotes taken from what other tropers have written on this site (if it's off-site it's a different matter, I suppose)?

That was recently discussed in the thread Septimus linked. (Less than five pages back as of this date.) General consensus was if it's just something a troper threw out on the site, then, no, it's not an acceptable quote.

If it's something from a troper's published work, then it depends on the quote. Part of the reason for the thread is some quotes are better than others, and there needs to be a place to discuss it.

Page quotes for trope and work pages are the usual ones under discussion, not banner quotes.

Just to make it clear, I was thinking of teh first case Candi lists (something a troper threw out on the site).

I think quotes from a troper's published work should be treated like quotes from any other published source.

^ This is accurate. A work is a work is a work is a work. A forum post is not a work. I mean, except when it is. But this post I'm making now, for instance, is not a work. Do not quote this post on wiki articles. :|

^^ "Banner quotes"?

Added to trope page:

"This post I'm making now, for instance, is not a work. Do not quote this post on wiki articles."

(Kidding.)

Quotes like Cryptic Mirror's banner comment. Because while that was definitely quotable, unfortunately it wouldn't qualify to be the page quote on a page even if there was a page where it could be quoted as the page quote.

I'm not sure what specific comment/quote you're talking about, but if I understand you correctly, I agree with what you're saying.
