You must be focusing on the "instantly recover when going to a safe place" part.

Dunno about that; you may wanna check Almost Out of Oxygen or Oxygen Meter for a start.

Almost Out of Oxygen is more or less related, but not extremely relevant.

Oxygen Meter looks like basically the trope, although now I'd like to ask: Would Oxygen Meter, which absolutely applies to my first two examples, also apply to the third, which is not actually an oxygen meter? It's definitely in the spirit of the trope—it's very much the exact same video game mechanic—but the description of the trope would exclude it as written.

I'd say that if it fits in spirit, it fits. Tropes Are Flexible; if it's basically filling the same role, then you can list it as a variation. (I had the same concerns in the past with listing the phone wiretapping minigame in Covert Action as a Hacking Minigame, since it's not "hacking" in the sense of breaking into a computer, but otherwise fits the trope perfectly.)

^ That's an excellent example of the kind of variant I'm looking at.

Odd that none of my examples, which are all very prominent games, seem to be on the page already, but then, Oxygen Meter doesn't look incredibly healthy. Maybe it needs some crosswicking or something. I'll try babysitting it for a while and see if I can get it some love.

Hm. Almost two hundred wicks and plenty of recent edits. Maybe I'm just overly picky about technical details and they are making it seem unloved to me. Eh.
