Correct. A Creator's page should only have tropes that apply to their work, not the person/organization themselves.

The usual example list header on a Creator page is something along the lines of "X's work frequently contains examples of:"

Not "X provides examples of:"

The last paragraph of the description is also way too much of an appeal to pathos. We aren't Wikipedia, we don't need to explain the finer points about his passing; we also don't need to say that he'll be dearly missed. He was a human being, it goes without saying that someone will dearly miss him.

It's also pimping out that fundraiser on TV Tropes, which IMO is a definite no-no.

Considering that the first paragraph includes his date of death, I think the entire last paragraph should just go. It's not serving any purpose but to lament Oum's death, and TV Tropes is not the place for that.

Not trying to sound like an ass, it's just not an appropriate place for it.

One last point, then I'll stop Serial Tweaking: All or most of the examples appear to be written in past tense. If they are legit examples, they need to be in present tense. But if they're troping him and not his work, they need to go.

Perhaps a temporary lock is in order so that some page cleaning can occur and some instructions can be left in the source to only trope the works, not the person? It's just not the main page that needs help, all of the sub-pages need work too (including two un-indexed pages present).

Whipped up a sandbox page. I just edited (purged, really) the tropes; I left the last paragraph because I don't think it goes too far into the praise, and since it does mention RT and his family wanted him to inspire other people, it's worth noting as it counts as his "influence" on other works, you know?

Commented out some trivia items; can those go on a Creator page? I see them there so often I feel like they can, but I'd like to hear from a mod.

A lot of the tropes on that page come from what's seen in Rooster Teeth's many behind the scenes videos, so maybe consider migrating them over to that page.

If they are behind the scene stuff that's still troping Real Life people which is a no-no

I think that depends on the behind the scenes stuff involved.

Taking a topic I'm more familiar with, on the BTS for Animaniacs, one of the writers describes how a snooty neighbor in a new neighborhood inspired the character of Candy Chipmunk (no relation) in a Slappy Squirrel segment. That's behind the scenes stuff relevant to an episode of the show, and probably a trope in and of itself. But when they're discussing other influences, some of it would go under personal RL stuff, and therefore handsoff, or is stuff about how the show was developed, and would probably go under Trivia.

So I think BTS tropes would depend if they were about the work or the people, and if they were about the work, how they are related to the work.

If the trivia relates to Real Life but applies to the work, then it's legit. TBH I think most trivia relates to real life in some way. But if the core idea of the trope is being used to describe something in real life then it's no bueno.

Well, I can see the merit of the Rooster Teeth "challenge" being mentioned, but I really don't think pimping a fundraiser or describing the circumstances of his death are necessary or appropriate. Stating his age is a little silly considering that the first sentence of the description includes his date of birth and death. And again, I'm very iffy on the "He will be missed dearly," but if the community thinks it's fine then I guess I'll stop banging on about it. I am compelled, though, to bring up Examples Are Not Recent in a broader sense (yes, I realize that this is not an "example", but the logic is still valid) and suggest: In four years, pimping a most likely defunct fundraiser and stating that "He will be missed dearly" is going to look very silly.

Reasonable.

In the meantime, anyone averse to me swapping in the tropes list from the sandbox?

It sounds like some of the personal tropes can go on the RT page, since those BTS videos are publicly released and are basically a work as far as we're concerned (as much as any documentary). Not going to do that myself as I haven't actually seen them so I can't say for sure.

That's what I was suggesting.

I know, I like your idea.

Thanks for all this. I wasn't certain what to do, given the situation, so the help is appreciated.

If my post doesn't mention a giant flying sperm whale with oversized teeth and lionfish fins for flippers, it just isn't worth reading.
