One more thing that may help. I think on the same record there was the song Hazy Shade Of Winter by The Bangles Which implies it was a compilation record as I don't think they ever had a male singer
"hazy Shade of Winter" is on they sndtrack for the movie "Less than Zero." Maybe the song is on there?
Danzig's "You and Me (Less than Zero)"?
That song is credited as Glenn Danzig and the Power & Fury Orchestra. Anyway, the song at the end of the A-side of the Less Than Zero soundtrack is Slayer’s cover of “In-a-Gadda-da-Vida,” so it probably wasn’t the LTZ soundtrack after all.

I THINK one of the lines was something like "however hard I try" but Google turns up nothing
Dan Hill had a hit with "Can't We Try" also in 1987 if it was a best of the year type album.
This signature says something else when you aren't looking at it.The Bangles' "Hazy Shade of Winter" was a cover of a Simon And Garfunkel song... maybe it was someone else's cover?
Dan Hill is not it sorry.
The song in question sounded somewhat similar to "Hazy Shade Of Winter" if I remember right. Pretty sure it was The Bangles version of that song.
Edited by BootlebatI made a recording of me singing what little I remember of it. Not very good but might help a little. http://tindeck.com/listen/fywn

One more thing that might help a little: I think the album cover had a black and white photo on it (doesn't narrow it down much I know)
update: after looking through records with my dad (he still keeps all of them), I am pretty sure it did not start with D or T as we checked all the ones in those sections and nothing was right. Also I don't think it was compilation as he only has one such record and it didn't fit. So what I still do know is: I heard it in 1990 or so, it had a male singer, it sounded somewhat similar to "Hazy Shade Of Winter" and the general meaning of the lyrics was something about how he can't do something.
Edited by BootlebatOkay, shot deep in the dark here. "Hazy Shade of Winter" by the Bangles is a cover. It is originally from the Simon and Garfunkle album Bookends.
Specifically look at the song "Overs".
And I'm habitually feelin' kind of blue. But each time I try on the thought of leaving you. I stop, I stop and think it over.

It also has a black and white photo on the cover.◊
Edited by Daefaroth This signature says something else when you aren't looking at it.That is not it sorry. The song had about the same tempo as Hazy Shade also.
Long time bump. The more I think about it the more I think maybe the album didn't have "Hazy Shade Of Winter" on it but I am misremembering it because the song I'm looking for sounded similar
Update. Someone on another site thought it was The Grass Roots- Temptation Eyes. It sounded really familiar but not quite right. I looked through my dad's records and he had More Golden Grass (by the same album) which had Temptation Eyes and also I'd Wait A Million Years, and Im positive that's right as it fits everything

This is gonna be a hard one but here goes: my dad had this record that I really liked to listen to when I was a kid circa 1990. There was this one song I really liked that was the final song on either side a or b (I forget if all the songs on the record were by the same group or not) singer was male, genre maybe rock or alternative. Can't remember any exact lyrics but I think the general meaning was something about no matter how hard he tries he can't do something. I think the band's name started with a D or a T but not sure.
