The TVTropes Trope Finder is where you can come to ask questions like "Do we have this one?" and "What's the trope about...?" Trying to rediscover a long lost show or other medium but need a little help? Head to Media Finder and try your luck there. Want to propose a new trope? You should be over at the Trope Launch Pad.
The real life example which is also the origin of the phrase:
Julie Caesar crossed the Rubicon river, deliberately breaking imperium law and making arm conflict inevitable in Rome, leading to civil war.
I found Point of No Return but that's a videogame trope.
Edit: I didn't think it was possible to be ninjaed here. Like I said Point of No Return is a trope specific to video games. But I'll look over the Event Horizon tropes to see if they describe what I have in mind.
Edited by partner555I checked, and Moral Event Horizon is specific to evil actions while Despair Event Horizon refers to events that causes a character to lose all hope.
I might have a new YKTTW to add if no one can find a trope that covers this idiom.
I did a search for "Burning your Bridges" (a similar idiom), but all I got was the subtrope Crossing the Burnt Bridge.
Link to TRS threads in project mode here.I think after I launch Same Event Different Perspective, I'll create the YKTTW for Crossing The Rubicon.
I've looked through the examples on that page. They're more focused on how the character THINKS they can't go back, and is more a speech said by the characters.
Crossing The Rubicon would be more focused on how the decisions and actions taken by the characters ACTUALLY IS irreversible.
Then I suppose some examples there actually belongs to Crossing The Rubicon.
Again, Burning the Ships is related: Someone deliberately prevent himself/others from going back.
MAX POWER KILL JEEEEEEEEWWWWWIt's not about the actions you've taken so far or not being able to go back. It's about knowing that you have the option to take an action or not that will start a domino effect of events, and that action cannot be taken back. Like knowing that a military vessel crossing a boundary line for any reason will be the first step in a war. The character is placed in a position where a single choice can irrevocably change the course of history one way or another, and it is up that character to make a decision where both choices are right but still hold such magnitude.
We also have Nothing Is the Same Anymore when the whole world becomes this.
MAX POWER KILL JEEEEEEEEWWWWW

You know the expression Crossing The Rubicon which means taking an action which can't be undone? Do we have a trope like that?
