When I was really young, I read this story—either a children's or young adult book—which for some reason I remember as being post-apocalyptic (at the very least least taking place in some dystopian future). The concept of the story was that there was some horrible acidic superstorm approaching the house of these kids, and since the power is out, the older sibling tries calming the younger ones down by telling them a story about fairies. Their parents aren't there—either missing, dead, or out of the house. I can't remember. (I remember the first part being really dark, and the second part was considerably lighter.)
From there, it follows the story of the exploits of a fairy in the human world while periodically interjecting dialogue between the older sibling and the other children. I can't remember the story very well from there, and I don't think I finished the book.
If it helps at all, I remember there being a storm on the cover (lightning, I think) and the title was something involving either "Sprite" or "Fairy."
Thanks!
