That doesn't sound like an Internet Backdraft for me. I think there is another trope for that.

FWIW, I've seen a concern over lack of diversity in the cast expressed in several places - here, for example - but no raving at the mouth as far as I can recall.

I've seen frothing at the mouth, but it's from good ol' social justice hive Tumblr, and I'd rather not go see the trainwreck again.

I think most of the backlash is over the fact a male protagonist is accompanying her (she was alone in the original), which lead to accusations of the stereotype of needing a man.

The only "frothing" I've personally seen (even on Tumblr) has been in response to the claim by critics of the critics that "There were no Po C at that time and place." And that's mainly "Stop being purposely ignorant! Learn real history!"

The two main criticisms of the movie I've seen are that 1) it's part of an overall trend that fantastical European setting = all white, despite the fact that this has no basis in history and that being part of a bigger trend of the erasure of Po C in history (as seen by the complaint in my first paragraph) and 2) Disney's overall lineup is disproportionately white, even if it has included Po C. Since Disney is aimed squarely at children, this is an age group that really needs to see representation of themselves and the real world on the screen.

I think the basic example is worth noting, but the way it's written is way overly defensive. I would suggest something like "The film has been accused of whitewashing. Complaints have been made that, while Disney has made strides in including people of color in their films, such as Aladdin, Lilo & Stitch and The Princess and the Frog, the numbers are still disproportionately white. These people started a "This Could Have Been Frozen" project, with people submitting their own versions of the story and recasting Anna and friends as non-white northern native people."

^ I used that with some added links to peoples opinion.

  • The film has been accused of whitewashing.

And maylove25 changed it to.

  • People have accused the film of whitewashing because it uses an all-Caucasian human cast. People have complained that many of Disney's films have featured predominantly Caucasian characters, even while Disney has made strides in including people of color in their films in the past couple of decades, such as Aladdin, Mulan, Pocahontas, Lilo & Stitch, Brother Bear, and more recently, The Princess and the Frog. These people started a "This Could Have Been Frozen" project, with people submitting their own versions of the story and recasting Anna and friends as non-white northern native people."

This is feels like misrepresentation of peoples opinions to create a strawman.

I agree that it's misrepresentation. It's a case of either missing the point or having an axe to grind. I'm leaning towards the later, because of the removal of the stats. Maylove25 is covering up the fact that the complaints are about under-representation, not complete lack of representation. Distorting the issue like that is not cool.

Question: Is that headed for edit warring to push their opinion? It looks sort of like it to me, but I might be wrong.

I sent them a pm to discuss it here. So hopefully they'll do that.

The problem is not any troper's opinion or the deletion of such, but one troper being inaccurately insistent in their portrayal of other people's opinion.

Looks like it validly relates the opinion on the referred site.

Well, I hope a mod edit will deter them from editing it again.
