ValuesDissonance.Real Life is the page, yes?

The entry you mention here was added by Valxam56, not Sifr1889. The latter added an entry about gypsies that I've pulled to discussion because it seems to be generic racism and not Values Dissonance.

As for your entry, I don't know.

That seems like one of those Real Life sections which completely lose touch with the wiki's mission. I suggest cutting that page completely.

I don't know - seems like an isolated issue with that entry.

I'm familiar with Liverpool as well and I've never heard of that either. The entry seems to be an overblown reference to the Scandinavian community that the Merseyside's Scandinavian Church supports (mostly Swedish), but that's nowhere near as widespread as the example is claiming. Even a lot of people in Liverpool don't know that church exists - and the church's main headquarters for Britain is actually in London, where it supports Swedish communities throughout Britain, not just Liverpool.

Edited by Wyldchyld If my post doesn't mention a giant flying sperm whale with oversized teeth and lionfish fins for flippers, it just isn't worth reading.

I don't think "Racist jokes are offensive" is unique to Liverpool; it looks more like a case of Square Peg Round Trope to me. The troper who added it can reword it so it's clearly valid, or make their case on the discussion page, but in the meantime, yeah, I'd say we can delete it.

Wiki etiquette is generally to assume good faith. It's probably an honest mistake.

My mother was born in Liverpool, and both of her parents were born and/or grew up there (even my dad's mother grew up just across the Mersey, in Bromborough), so I've been there numerous times and learned a lot about the area's history, and I've never heard of this. It is true that many places on Merseyside (eg Crosby, Formby, Irby, Greasby, Helsby, Pensby, Kirkby) have Viking names, but their settlement pre-dates the Norman Conquest. And no rational person would identify as Scandinavian just because they lived in a part of Europe that was ruled by the Vikings a thousand years ago.

At best it should be pulled to discussion for justification, at worst it should be cut altogether.

Thanks! Including for the correction as to contributor... I know the Scouse sense of humour and I know it pretty much has no limits - anybody and anything are fair game (and the gags are usually pretty funny). I'd just never heard of this one and offhand I just can't think of any Scouse jokes about Scandinavians (acceptable or otherwise) - they're pretty much under the radar here! Asking the original contributor for provenance would seem to be the best way forward here.
