To clarify, do you mean "isn't practically used" to mean "hardly ever used" or "is impractical when used"? If the latter, it's Awesome, but Impractical. Don't think we have something for the former.

I'm getting an impression that The Artifact might fit, but I'm not sure.

Is there a trope for when a game contains a cool gameplay mechanic that isn't practically used anywhere outside its tutorial?
