Only thing I can think of is "Aupres de ma Blonde". The woman there says her husband is going to war, but he is going to fight the Dutch.

Thank you very much, but that's not it. The title of the song was only two words long, which I probably should've mentioned in the original query. The song is very pretty, so thank you for introducing me to it!

I think we need to find out when the last time French soldiers fought in Silesia. Might give us some idea of the period.

I take it this is not a "modern" song, but would have been in a period of swords, horses, muskets, etc?

Did a quick wikipedia scan, and they said that the French occupied upper Silesia after the Treaty of Versailles, so as late as 1921-22.
