Bump for the same reasons as the other thing.
moved to Oceanstuck because this handle was starting to bother me my tumblrI swear there's a trope for when words lose meaning due to an apocalypse or something. Sort of like how Batman of Zur-En-Arrh is named after Arc Words that even Batman can't figure out because he can't remember. Though, it turns out to be his father's last words "Zorro in Arkham." Or in the webcomic Wayward Sons with how the indigenous people misunderstand the character's names.
Why Future Imperfect? Future Imperfect is when future civilizations get history wrong, so why would...?
moved to Oceanstuck because this handle was starting to bother me my tumblr- shrug* Because it's a case of people in the future misinterpreting a past artifact, in this case a word?
I know that there have been a few post-apocalyptic works involving a misinterpretation of a current city's name, as revealed by the end of a film or episode, but I'm blanking on an actual case. Artificial example... post-apocolyptic movie involves the intrepid party seeking the magic artifact in Detritus, so known because it's a city build on heaps of trash. At the end of the film, the camera pans past the party to a recognizable city sign for Detroit with the last few letters obviously clumsily altered to make it "Detritus". If anyone remembers an actual work where this happens, that would be a good place to start looking.

In Aikonia, the variety of magic called "Arcana" is sealed away. There's an establishing shot of the casket
in which it is supposedly sealed, and I noticed the word "Arcana", if the plaque became less legible over time (as a Time Skip ensues), could be misread as "Aikonia".
Not sure if this is intentional, and the setting itself is also called "Aikonia"
. Just wondering if there's a suitable trope here somewhere.
