This isn't exclusive to webcomics - Hergé redrew his early Tintin stories in his later, more refined art style. He also colorized them in the process. I think Jim Davis did the same with his early Garfield strips.

I don't think we have a trope for this specifically, but it sounds like a good one. Maybe YKTTW it as something like Content Quality Edit?

I have noticed several webcomics where the artists have gone back and re-visited earlier parts of their work and re-drawn them (either single strips or entire chapters even). The reason they do this is usually their own Art Evolution: They have become unsatisfied/embarrassed with their often amateurish early work. Sometimes this is done in conjunction with their comic going into print.
This can overlap with a Re-Cut or even George Lucas Altered Version, actually changing the story, but usually this is simply an update of the artwork. Do we have a trope for that?
