Doesn't seem to be a meme. If people support this version of the Joker, it would fit better under Rooting for the Empire.
I feel like it needs citation as being a meme, I'm also kinda leery in the ROCEJ-sense by feeling like people trying to pass this as a meme is trying to say "It's good he wanted to aid in committing genocide since the other side were savages who sacrificed people". But I haven't seen the movie myself either, so I can't say where it would fall on the Aztecs being demonized/lionized versus their real world history.
Edited by NaraNumas^ I will say that the guy who added it also defended Conquistadors: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/query.php?parent_id=148240&type=att
Oh, gross. While there’s no denying the brutality of the Aztecs, the Spaniards were certainly not the heroes he’s implicitly making them out to be either. The brutality of the Aztec Empire does not erase the litany of atrocities committed by the Spanish Conquistadors, including what was effectively genocide (and not just against Aztecs) - the implication that a real-life instance of genocide was somehow "justifiable" is loaded with Unfortunate Implications.
At this point, I’d suggest nuking the entry entirely, because it’s evident that it’ll be used to push historical revisionism (which violates ROCEJ for sure).
Edited by ParadoxicYeah, I feel like the entry uncritically referring to the Aztec empire as evil is already problematic enough. (And I can totally believe it's not a meme, either.)
EDIT: Calling them evil and saying it was good that they were genocided, more precisely.
Edited by DoktorvonEurotrashI'd say get rid of this. The Unfortunate Implications are off the charts here...
Also, TIL there's an Aztec Batman. Definitely adding this movie to my "plan to watch list", if only because the idea of superheroes in a historical fiction context seems quite interesting.
"I would never consider YOU a waste of personnel." — KawarinoSeems like someone is just unironically adding the racist "Sorry, the Human Sacrifices will Stop" meme (which is, as other people have pointed out, primarily used by reactionaries boiling down Spanish colonization of Mexico to "it was good and based") to the page. Very easy cut, and it sounds like the guy who added it may need some scrutiny as well.
Edited by ReginaldOgron5 Wenn sie die Ente hierein lassen, lasse ich das Wasser hieraus!I looked through the page's history, and people went back and forth a lot on that entry. There was an edit war between the person who initially added it and a now-banned troper.
However, while that troper was out of line for the Edit War, I want to note that the ATT thread that brought this to mods' attention
came from the troper who added the "meme" in the first place... and they were also edit warring.
Even setting aside the Unfortunate Implications of the content, this simply doesn't appear to be a meme, or is at least framed in a weird way for the page. Searching "based joker" turns up results for Joker (2019), the Heath Ledger Joker, Persona 5, a couple hits for Balatro, and a SoundCloud rapper by that name, but I'm not seeing any results related to Aztec Batman. Even when I directly add the movie to the search I just get generic results for Joker in that movie and no value judgements either way. The only credence to this being a meme are a few comments on the original trailer that make the same joke, but don't phrase it as being "based."
(Edited to add further search results)

The Aztec Batman Clash Of Empires has a Memetic Mutation entry calling the Joker based for slaughtering the natives. I cannot find anything about this on Google — I find memes for DCAU Joker and the protagonist from Persona 5, but not this version of Joker. There was already an edit war about this, so can I get consensus about this?
