Bob has an opinion that's wrong about something in general, and when proven right in a specific case, takes it to mean he's right about it in general.
e.g. Bob is a Conspiracy Theorist who believes the mayor, high-school principal and chief of police of his town are alien Communist liberal vampire lizard people here to destroy America's way of life. They're not (obviously), but when those three are arrested for running a cocaine smuggling operation Bob thinks he's vindicated and takes it as proof that they are in fact alien Communist liberal vampire lizard people here to destroy America's way of life.
And the inverse, where Alice is right in general but wrong in one particular instance.
e.g. Alice is asked out on a date by her coworker Charlie. She accuses him of only wanting her for her body like the last 35 coworkers (and underlings, and managers, and clients...) to ask her out. Thing is, while she is physically attractive, Charlie genuinely sees her as a person and it's her personality he's interested in. Alice is right that All Men Are Perverts in general in the setting (as proven by said 35 dudes lusting after her), but Charlie happens to be the exception.
