Since it's not Audience Reactions (meaning it's just subjective examples), I've never considered mentioning "audience reaction" as a requirement.

^In that case, how is Audience Reactions different than YMMV? AR seems a subcategory of YMMV. What's the difference to having a subjective reaction to a work and subjectivity.

  • YMMV was previously called Subjective Tropes. It's when something is an example in a work according to a troper, but not all may agree with it.
  • Audience Reactions is about fan and critical reception, it's about things that are external.

If they weren't different, there wouldn't be a subcategory, but how non-tropes are placed in one in the other heavily leans on "it so happened and nobody discussed it". This is also my interpretation, at least I've never heard of "this is how audience thinks" needing to be applied outside the Audience Reactions's list.

Thanks for that clarification.

The reason Easily Forgiven cleanup agreed it had to list the audience reaction is without it is just Turn the Other Cheek which is not YMMV. I know it odd to require that which is why I brought here, asking about any other way to differentiate them.

Maybe audiences reaction isn't the term I'm looking for. But how else to make examples convey the YMMV part that makes it separate from Turn the Other Cheek?

Also, Unintentionally Unsympathetic is an Audience Reaction, so why isn't or shouldn't Easily Forgiven which is related and oft overlaps be?

Bump.

Took this to the EG cleanup thread in addition.
