Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
I do not know much about SAO, so I looked at the official wikis.
Here's what I found about Yuuki: "Although Yuuki continued to fight the disease, a group of students during the course of her fourth grade discovered that she was a carrier of HIV. As rumors about Yuuki spread around the school, she was forced to transfer schools."
And what I found for Sinon: "In late December 2010,[10] Shino and her parents were involved in a motor vehicle collision on a secluded mountain road, which resulted in the death of her father as no help could arrive on time.[11] Due to Shino's mother becoming traumatized by the ordeal, the girl started living with her grandparents and decided to become strong enough to always protect her mother.[11]
In late 2020,[12] Shino was accompanying her mother at a post office, when a man armed with a Type 54 "Black Star" handgun entered the building, demanding money from the staff.[11] The moment the robber threatened to shoot Shino's mother if his demands were not met, the girl wrested the pistol from him and pulled the trigger, resulting in the man's death. As a result of the incident, Shino developed an intense fear of guns[11] and a slight apprehension of men,[13] leading to her being ostracized throughout elementary and middle school.[11]"
Pretty sure both are sufficient grounds to qualify for All of the Other Reindeer. Given that and their extremely short list of edits (they've only made one other edit apart from the four that this ATT is about), I strongly suspect that Seport 07 is editing with an agenda. That is also not getting into how, like you said, removing an entry again after it had been re-added for false reasons is edit-warring. I'd support reverting (with a link to this ATT thread), and sending them notifiers for edit warring (use a custom template).
Edited by ParadoxicI've summoned the troper to this ATT thread via PM.
I've also restored the partially revised entries, but removed some of the "X is this" wording (which is considered word cruft).
Edited by gjjones He/His/Him. No matter who you are, always Be Yourself.I said, I have watched the whole season again, and there are no scene featuring that. I checked for real. The Yuuki one is based in Season 2 episode 22 and 23. The Shino one is based on Season 2 episode 3.
In Yuuki case, I know that she has diagnosed with HIV. But there are no explanations about her school. That is all.
In Shino case, I know that Shino onece killed the robber, leading to her trauma. That is all. No further explanation about her elementary school life.
Edited by Seport07You are basing this solely on the anime, when there are other source materials (i.e. the Light Novels and the manga) that do depict this happening.
And even then, in Sinon’s case, there is a Flashback in the anime where a young Shino is surrounded by other children calling her things like “murderer”, which makes it evident she likely had no friends after the incident.
To clarify the source material, Sword Art Online originated as web novels written by Reki Kawahara between 2002 and 2008. Then, the light novels began publishing in 2009, and they're still ongoing as of this moment. These light novels were used as the basis for the anime adaptation.
Edited by gjjones He/His/Him. No matter who you are, always Be Yourself.Yeah, those are invalid deletions. Sword Art Online underwent serious Adaptation Displacement in the West since it became popular for the anime adaptation first. The novels didn't start getting published in English until two years after the anime started up.
Trust me, I'm an engineer! The pages can document examples from any media in the franchise, but especially the source material like the light novels. It not appearing in the anime is not grounds for removal if it appears in other media.
Also in future. If someone changes your edit, you cannot immediately put it back. That is called edit warring and is against site rules. You need to take it to the page's discussion page first and resolve the dispute there.
Edited by Snowy66Because it is not in the anime. It is in the light novels, which is the book that the anime is based upon.
Edited by Snowy66If the trope example is only in the light novels, the examples should note that.
SING TO ME, LEND ME THE SONG OF BLASPHEMY^I would rather note that it was omitted from the adaptation, giving priority to the source material.
Trust me, I'm an engineer!^Well, you can look over the example lists for other Light Novels that got adaptations: the pages for Reign of the Seven Spellblades, The Rising of the Shield Hero, and The Apothecary Diaries are all very complete.
E.g. there's this example I wrote for Nanatsuma on Pragmatic Pansexuality:
- Reign of the Seven Spellblades: Discussed in volume 2 when Pete comes out to the rest of the Sword Roses as a reversi. Chela idly comments that Pete could "make the most of it", noting that Rod Farquois, a historical archmage who was a reversi, had a variety of lovers of both sexes. This line is Bowdlerized out of the manga and anime adaptations.
I referenced the volume it came from, and mentioned that the anime and manga left it out.

Recently, a newer troper named Seport07
removed anything pertaining to All the Other Reindeer, the trope itself and anything that may allude to it, from Yuuki's folder in the Sword Art Online Major Characters page
, and Sinon's Character page
, under the reasoning that nothing in the story states or implies that they were isolated.
Me, having engaged with both the anime and light novels and knowing that they were in fact isolated during their Dark And Troubled Pasts, re-added the entries explaining this. However, today they re-removed the entries on Yuuki's folder
, and Sinon's page
without discussion under the claim of having re-watched the anime and seeing no evidence of such for either character.
Can I ask that this is sorted out soon?
