Just out of curiosity, where did the trope name come from? Technically, it is perverse (as this sort of lust can't really lead to what lust naturally leads to), but the word brings to mind... less innocent connotations.

Wikipedia calls this "fictosexuality" but I don't know of a trope on TV Tropes that describes it.

Perverse Sexual Lust is a term for a real person's attraction to a fictional character. This is the trope, it's just somewhat confusingly named.

Maybe it needs to be renamed.

^ I would support such a move. While it's difficult to definitively prove that this page would receive more clicks with a more descriptive name, it's a reasonable assumption.

Veanne: Your question about the origin of the term is answered in the second paragraph of the page text.

I don't think, a renaming is strictly necessary. Whenever I happen to forget the name, I look up the link in Celeb Crush.

It's just that the name is potentially misleading. It seems like it would refer to more taboo forms of lust, especially incestuous or pedophilic.

Um, but there's so many more ways for lust to be perverse than this. It's too broad. I'm not saying that just because we've all had crushes on fictional characters it's not, strictly speaking, perverse, but most people, when seeing such a trope name, will think of something more akin to Comic Sutra. The answer in the page text seems more like the author simply wanted Brain Bleach and to stop thinking about it.

The discussion page for Perverse Sexual Lust has raised the name issue several times, but nothing's come of it.

Mostly because nobody has bothered to actually go through the process and prove the name has to change. They've all just complained and wonked over it.

Take it to trope talk guys, I answered the question, the trope's name isn't relevant here
