I restored the entry with an edit reason reminding users to discuss major changes (like removal of entries) following a unilateral deletion (after discussion with the other moderators).
As far as I can see, in the (short) edit history, there has been no other removal or readding of the entry (aside from some tweaks by various editors, the only other notable event was it being moved from the YMMV tab to the Trivia tab).
EDIT: Or rather, it was moved from Trivia to YMMV and back to Trivia.
EDIT EDIT: The tl;dr of this would be that there hasn't been an edit war, but discussion of the entry (as with any trivia or YMMV involving a contentious subject) would be appropriate.
Edited by Bisected8 TV Tropes's No. 1 bread themed lesbian. she/her, fae/faerPersonally I'd say it's worth mentioning since him being cast in Knights of Guinevere was an open avenue for people to sling insults and that was, in turn, the straw that broke the camel's back. But that's for whatever discussion comes out of the edit.
Wuewuewuewuewueing my way to the bank. The main debate seems over whether a note should be kept or not. The note (with a source) suggests Cho hasn't actually professed the beliefs he is being criticised for, but other tropers say there is evidence that he does have those beliefs. I don't know enough about this situation to judge.
Edited by king15The note has just been removed, with the justification that "A citation coming from a random X user isn’t reliable. Should probably cite the interview itself if this is true.". The thing is, the X post does cite the interview, so I feel like including that post as a source, if indeed the note is to be kept, seems fine.
I've asked before if any Twitter/X post that isn't directly from an official source, or any other fan source, is valid. But it keeps getting ignored. If this issue keeps coming up...
The entry in question.
- Why Fandom Can't Have Nice Things: Short after being announced as the voice of Orville Park, SungWon Cho announced his withdrawal from X when he received backlash for supposedly claiming that voice actors can only play characters who match their race or background, which many have seen as Moral Myopia due to his (now deleted) complaints
of being denied roles that didn't match his own ethnicity.note Cho admits that he's been receiving these hate comments for a while, but it has now reached the point where he believes the platform is a lost cause.
Moral Myopia is no real life. We can remove that and the contested Twitter links and still have a valid entry. Should I?
I think it's worth noting that, from what I understand, a lot of the backlash is based around the idea that he's being a hypocrite by voicing a white character when he's in the past supported the idea that voice actors should match the ethnicity of the character they're playing... except that I'm pretty sure the character, "Orville Park", is indeed Korean-American like him. People with a grudge against him just... assumed the character is white based on the first name and the Animesque artstyle
Edited by Dirtyblue929Regardless of if the accusations against him are true/valid or not, WFCHNT still applies if the creator reduced fan interaction over it. Is that much verified?
Edited by Ferot_DreadnaughtPerhaps the issue is the wording following the format of "Claim/accusation[note: may not be true]". Maybe the best thing to do is to merge the note with the claim (all evidence I can find points to it being a misinterpretation of something SungWon Cho's said) and make it something like "Over claims, which stem from a misunderstanding of an interview, that he believes..."
Edited by Bisected8 TV Tropes's No. 1 bread themed lesbian. she/her, fae/faerWould something like this work best?
- Why Fandom Can't Have Nice Things: Shortly after being announced as the voice of Orville Park, SungWon Cho announced his withdrawal from X when he received backlash over claims that he believes voice actors can only play characters who match their race or background, which stem from a misunderstanding of an interview
where he expressed support for more casting opportunities for actors of color. Cho admitted that he's been receiving these hate comments for a while, but it has now reached the point where he believes the platform is a lost cause.
I removed the Moral Myopia part as it links to an X account that appears to be fairly reactionary and possibly arguing in bad faith, alongside the trope misuse.

Like the title suggests, there seems to be an edit war going on in Trivia.Knights Of Guinevere. More specifically, regarding the inclusion of Why the Fandom Can't Have Nice Things trope.
Apparently, there was some drama with one of the voice-actors? The entry keeps being deleted by people who think it's not worth talking about and re-added by people who think it's worth mentioning.
