It's kinda just a Vocal Minority thing. Those works aren't hated. Far from it. They're insanely popular. It's just that the silent majority of fans aren't the ones we know about.

Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper Wall

There's also Critic-Proof (the critics hate it; the public flock to see it.)

Periphery Hatedom can be a possible reason too (a large group, that is not the target demographic, viciously rejects the work, while it just works fine for those, it is aimed at).

Opinion Myopia overlaps with Vocal Minority for the "and everyone seems to agree" part.

It's not just that the complaining voices tend to be the loudest- people have trouble imagining that most people don't share their opinions, especially when those minority opinions are reinforced by an echo chamber or major influencer. Thus you get people shocked by the fact that longstanding franchises are enjoyed by a massive fandom.

Where this gets especially warped is when a Caustic Critic runs into Poe's Law and fans that don't understand the kayfabe of turning "This character's arc felt a little flat to me." into "OMG THIS IS SUCH STUPIDLY BAD WRITING YOU GUYS" for entertainment.
