The reason can vary depending on the work? I was watching A Series of Unfortunate Events (2017) the other day and there was a scene where Count Olaf burns the book, "The Incomplete History of Secret Organizations" at the end of season 2 along with the rest of the carnival and was wondering, "is this a trope?"

Edited by PixilateSpades But I did not give it importance.Tropes are patterns in storytelling, used to convey meaning. So it matters whether this is about fire or about destroying the MacGuffin (or both).

Something important such as a MacGuffin, keepsake, concept or artifact gets put in a fire for whatever reason. It's separate from Fiery Cover-Up or Destroy the Evidence as the object(s) in question doesn't always need to be associated with crime.
