A situation where two people have opposite reactions to an issue, and yet still run into the same consequence.
For instance, Alice and Bob are both visiting a foreign culture where some aspect of the culture (clothes, jewelry, hairstyles etc.) has great significance to the locals.
Bob starts imitating the local style with no knowledge of what it means, so he ends up unintentionally proclaiming himself a priest of the fire god, a widower, and a three-time grandmother; Alice remains dressed in her own country's style (even when a native offers to show her the right ones to wear) to avoid appropriating the culture.
They still get in trouble with the locals, Bob for appropriating the cultural trappings with no regard for what they actually mean, Alice for (appearing to) think herself too good for them.
