Based on Coma being a disambiguation page after so many years, it's probably not enough for "character is in a vegetative state" to qualify as a trope.
If there's something more to it, like:
- And I Must Scream — They are actually aware and have locked-in syndrome.
- Fate Worse than Death — They would have preferred dying outright.
- If there's some specific complication or plot this leads to, that could be investigated.
... then those are narrative tropes that can be explored.

Not like, the food. Someone who reverts to a vegetative state.
