Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
And now they're accusing me of being a bot for sending a notifier for an edit of theirs that was already cleaned up. There's no way of knowing whether or not a notifier was already sent for an edit another troper cleaned up, unless they specifically mentioned it (either in the cleanup/ATT thread it was brought up in, or in the edit reason), and no indication was given that a notifier was sent.
That definitely sounds like a violation of the “Don’t Be a Dick” rule at this site.
This is funny and a bit sad at the same time. Gotta love people that jump to conclusions without hearing the other side. I wasn't being "rude" as you described as I generally thought you was a clean-up bot or something considering you didn't read the recent history of edits in the "Jigsaw and Accomplices" page. You should had noticed straight away on the main page that my mistake was already cleaned up. Don't take it to heart, it was just a little criticism is all.
The Snow White YMMV was already resolved with the person that removed my edits. I apologized about my edits being early as the movie had not even released as of yet. And we both agreed that they will be reinstated when the adequate time comes because we assumed/predicted that it might be a box-office bomb at worse, or very decisive at best.
Also I already took back my harsh bashing against Ryan Murphy, I didn't "double down" I was criticizing how hypocritical his production company and corporate Hollywood was being in allowing queer themes but still enforcing 'Bury Your Gays', 'Hide Your Gays', and 'But Not Too Gay' heavily in their productions. Which I have the right to be vocal about in my P Ms, being a homosexual male myself.
Thank you, and please come to me directly to me in the future instead of airing out dirty laundry you have with me out in public <3
^ One of the purposes of Ask The Tropers is to discuss issues with tropers and to determine the best way to proceed. If fellow tropers think there isn't an issue or someone is overreacting, they'll be quick to say so. Troper UFO Yeah brought the issue here, got consensus input from other tropers, as well as eight tropers giving their raising of this issue a thumbs up.
^ Free and unsolicited advice: "Don't Be A Dick" is one of the concrete rules of this site and it's really a good idea to stay on the right side of it.
^^ The whole point of notifiers is to "come to a troper if you have any concerns with their edits", which is exactly what I did. If Troper X sends a notifier to Troper Y and Troper Y responds in a way that comes off as hostile (or at least, not seeing anything wrong with their edits, despite the edits necessitating at least one notifier), then Troper X is well within their rights to make an ATT report.
Sometime before I started out on TVT, a rule regarding ATT reports was made, in which you had to send at least one notifier to the troper you planned on reporting before actually reporting them for their problematic edits, even if they were still making rookie mistakes after being on this wiki for over a decade. Prior to that, you will see reports where tropers ended up suspended almost without warning, something this new rule was implemented to combat. And yet you seem to be acting as though I made this report without giving you any kind of heads-up (when I did, you just chose to ignore it).
As for why it took as long as it did for me to send a notifier, well, I only discovered the edit today, and only because it was brought up in a cleanup thread (also today) that I visit regularly.
Edited by UFOYeahThen you should have explained that to me, I only make quick edits from time-to-time I don't know everything about this site. Look I know it's not your job to inform others about the rules and regulations, but considering that you are passionate enough to put out an ATT report, you could have been a little forthcoming and explained about notifiers to me, and that you was not a bot after I accidentally accused you of being one. I sincerely apologize for coming across as "hostile", I didn't mean to be as I was just explaining my reasons for the edits and backpedaling on them.
As I discovered when I first got here, there’s a bit of a learning curve involved in using this site — and it’s not unusual to receive criticism from more experienced tropers when things foul up. It’s always best to go on the assumption that you may get things like notifiers or advice or criticism on things you do, especially when you’re new around here. I recommend accepting all this constructively and reacting with graciousness when it happens. We’re trying to help here, as well as uphold the site’s standards.
^ I agree. Maybe I could've explained further, but after two negative responses in a row (intended or not), an accusation of being a bot (something that no other troper has said to me in the nearly three years I've been here), and the fact that experience has taught me that tropers who respond to notifiers in such a way are better dealt with in an ATT report, I went with my gut. The rude responses even in this very ATT thread only seemed to prove me right.
Edited by UFOYeahI'm actually quite accepting of criticism, and perfectly fine if my edits get edited or removed. I was generally curious why the late notification about the removal of my edit of the American Horror Story YMMV, I had no idea about 'notifiers', I'm sincerely not trying to be hostile. However, I am not a fan of this perceived public shaming, and immediate vilifying. It's not considered "graceful" either, just comes across as people seeking out drama and trying to "one-up" the other person who hadn't even given their side of things.
Edited by Slothed^^ Thirding this. Basically took the words out of my mouth.
If you'd like to learn more on how the site works, I'd recommend reading through Administrivia, which has several helpful pages for people who are struggling with using the site.
Edited by ilovewildkratts1 Wuewuewuewuewueing my way to the bank.As an aside, do we even employ clean-up bots here? Even ignoring what it'd feel like to be accused of being one, I think the chances of that are...quite unlikely, to be honest.
My troper wall's now my troper page, yay! Come to IJBMAt this point, mod intervention is needed because the comment in ^^^^ is the final nail in the coffin to violating the "Don't Be a Dick" rule.
Wuewuewuewuewueing my way to the bank. You know what causes people to be rude (a "dick"), or for this matter to be considered ruder (a "bigger dick")? It's when others constantly tell them they're being one, especially when they had no basis in the first place other than someone's word of mouth. (Text of hand?) The whole "rusty doorknob" thing is just an example of me actually being rude/"a dick" (in jest that is)
And UFO Yeah, I have no idea why you're so hung up on me accidently calling you a bot, you're going about this like I physically slapped you. I already apologized to you 3 or more times, just let it go.
Ban me if you wish; like I said I don't have that much commitment to this site (I editted what like 4-5 works?) This whole persecution and herd mentality has made me weary, and the "Don't be a dick" rule is so vague and opinionated, it's no wonder that other sites don't have it.
Edited by Slothed^ Slothed, you really need to step away from this, disengage your emotions, and remember that politeness and civility goes a long way here. The "Don't Be A Dick" rules are strictly enforced by the Mods and you're edging into that territory. A suspension or a ban just isn't worth it when a little civility and patience will keep it from happening.
^ x8: Thank you. Will keep that in mind for the future and will holler the other posts in this thread besides the one in ^^, which was already hollered.
At this point, I think we should leave the issue alone until Mrph or another mod intervenes. (Yes, that includes you, Slothed. Escalating the issue is a waste of energy and you've already been told what you need to do.)
Wuewuewuewuewueing my way to the bank.Slothed has been given a break from Ask The Tropers. Y'all aren't exactly being nice, either, way too chatty and gravedancey. I'll close the query. If there are more problems, make a new query with more facts and less commentary.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard Feynman

Slothed has a habit of complaining, complete with creator bashing (as seen here
) and trying to sneak an edit past
"No Recent Examples" guidelines. On this page
alone, they've also had issues with tropeslashing and putting YMMV tropes on a Characters subpage.
I sent a complaining notifier (for an edit that was brought up and subsequently removed in the "removing complaining" cleanup thread, no less) and got a rather rude response in which A) they criticized me for not saying something sooner (when it has only just been brought to the complaining thread today) and B) they doubled down on their edit.
