If you refer to quoteright number, the values of 350 and above are functionally identical and don't do anything.

For page images, less than 350 is not recommended.

I am referring to quoteright number.

For question 1 I'm referring specifically changing the image size to be 350 even if it was originally 800 or above. I've seen people do that and I want to know if that's just a preference or if that's what should be done.

For question 2 thank you for the clarification.

I recall people recommending you leave the quoteright number at 350, though I'm not sure it makes much difference in practice.

I usually leave the number in the quoteright code at a rounded-down number that's close to the actual size of the pic (like, if the pic is 1137px native, I'll put 1100 in the code), mainly because 1) the auto-resizer will make it look like it's 350px anyway so I don't see the point in doing it myself, and 2) it's a quick visual cue to editors that the pic is size-compliant.

Now, for cases where having the pic at 350px would make it disproportionately large against the description, then I'll play around with a number that will make it reasonably balanced against the description while still being easily parsed, especially if there's text in the pic that could be made illegible by downsizing it too much.

^This, basically.

I never bother changing the quoteright number because the site only displays images at 350 pixels anyway, so it doesn't make any difference whether or not I change that myself. It also,a s Willbyr said, lets other editors know that the image is at a good size at a glance.
