Your description vaguely reminds me of Shadow Tag
where you're being chased by creepy ghost children who try to possess you, but in there you have to escape to your car and there's no castle involved. There is a supposedly haunted house but you won't get to go inside.

I played this at school in the early 2000s. It was a first-person PC game where you had to navigate a spooky hedge maze.
It took place at night. I think the objective was to reach a haunted house or castle in the distance. It might have been the first level of a longer game. The graphics were 3D, probably now very dated. Think PS 1 style.
It could have been an educational game. I vaguely remember wrought iron gates and cartoony ghost enemies.
