Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
The phrase is an exaggeration, so claiming it's true or exclusive is absurd. Some people can get ulcers just from KFC if they're not careful.
TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupIt does say "somewhat" true; it isn't saying it's 100% factual or exclusive to Indian food, it's just a way of acknowledging that Indian food can be very spicy and spicy food can wreck a person's digestive (as we already discussed on the Gassy Gastronomy draft)
It's probably not necessary but saying it's "racist" feels like a stretch; it's purposefully written in a way isn't saying the exaggerated stereotype is the full truth. It can probably be cut for not being exclusive to Indian cuisine though
Edited by WarJay77 Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallLooking at the page, it does seem a little odd it says that about Indian food in particular (it's spicy, it's true, but it's far from the only country with super spicy cuisine), and it's contradicted by the sentence right after, but it doesn't seem especially malicious.
TV Tropes's No. 1 bread themed lesbian. she/her, fae/faerI don't see anything wrong with the example. Indian food is one of the cuisines that are famous for being very spicy, and the stereotypes and exaggeration of the Hollywood Cuisine trope does the rest.
Edited by DoktorvonEurotrashSpeaking as somebody who cooks a lot of Indian food, 1) not all of it in fact is super-spicy (typically it's the coastal and southerly origins like Goa; Delhi-style cuisine is pretty mild by comparison), and 2) Vietnamese, Thai, and Korean goes way hotter.
So yeah, just cut that Truth in Television bit.

Here's the part I'm talking about:
It's the part in parentheses that I'm not sure about; claiming that it's true that Indian food "burns a hole in the diner's guts" doesn't sit well with me. That said, I'm not Indian myself, and I'm aware that the whole trope is about stereotypes.
