Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
We have a thread
. It's generally where these get discussed. It doesn't help much, since it's so low trafficked. And the users making poor SD pages generally wouldn't be checking random forums for approval beforehand.
I still wish the site would lock the Self-Demonstrating/ namespace so that new pages can't be made except through TLP. It would save everyone so much headache.

We don't want people to keep writing them. The cleanup thread is a cleanup thread for a reason; you can pitch your ideas but we're not going to switch gears and encourage these.
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallI wouldn't even go that far, I don't think we as a site are discouraging them if they're good.
The real problem is that if they're the kind of person that's going to write one (or more) that blatantly doesn't meet the requirements of a Self-Demonstrating page, they're probably not the type to go to an obscure thread to try to pitch it and seek feedback. If they were, then people wouldn't make pages that wind up cut because they don't have a unique voice.

Hop on over to this page and add them.I'm not saying we're "discouraging" them but to actively switch to encouraging them goes against the point of the thread. It's even been suggested to pre-lock the namespace due to how bad they often are. The more we get, the more work we ultimately have. People already can and do get feedback there, but "helping people write them" assumes that writing more good ones is even possible. It's a very difficult namespace and it's hard to explain what makes a "good" page to people.

It's a common thing for Self-Demonstrating character pages to get cut for not meeting the specific conditions regarding pages, as quoted directly from the page:
However, a key problem is that there is a small amount of users who don't really look into these conditions, which is why some pages later get cut for not meeting them.
I believe that we need a thread to help brainstorm ideas for which characters should get Self-Demonstrating Character Pages, and find ways to make them work within the conditions laid out on the page. Perhaps we could provide tips on how to make a character come off as less "generic" when writing a page coming from their point of view. I don't know which forum the possible thread could belong to, but that could also be a question to be answered.
