I mean. As far as I know it isn't a punishable offense to respond to an edit reason with your own. It just isn't sufficient as a form of discussion to prevent you from being in an Edit War. If you added the entry yourself or had uncommented it out previously, then it would be a problem because you're relying on edit reasons instead of reaching out to the user directly. But explaining why you're undoing someone else's edit kind of necessitates you respond to them to an extent.

Technically speaking your edit reason was incorrect (the "rumors" refer to rumors of him losing his part in the show, not to the abuse allegations) but as you say that isn't the point of this ATT.

It isn't? Either way I won't do it in the future.

All that is left is to decide if it counts. I took it to the "Is this an example?" thread for that.

you aren't supposed to respond to previous edit reasons
More specifically, edit reasons should contain an explanation for an edit and not contain arguing that'd be best for the discussion tab. In case where edit war is approaching, the only valid edit reason is a link to the discussion. Your edit reason out of context sounds like it explains why the example shouldn't be hidden, so it doesn't sound odd to me. If it feels like arguing with the previous troper to you, you can PM them to chat in the discussion tab or forums over the example so both are in agreement.
