I think Remulus is wrong. Brother Bear is relatively well-liked nowadays, as it has an 86% approval rating on Google, and mostly positive reviews
from audiences on Letterboxd. It still gets referenced today, as an ornament
was made to celebrate its 20th anniversary last year. They did not do this with Home on the Range, which recently had its 20th anniversary. This is because Brother Bear is more well-liked and popular than Home on the Range. Also, last month I went to Disney Springs and "On My Way" was played at one of the stores. Not only that, but you're not edit warring, as you were right.
...uh, no.
Edit Warring is edit warring, it doesnt matter if youre "right" or not.
Also, Brother Bear was not hated enough to count. It made hundreds of millions of dollars, was nominated for an Oscar and got a sequel a few years later.
Thats not Vindicated by History. The example should be cut and remain that way.
I can't give any meaningful input on whether or not the Vindicated by History entry is valid. But i'd be remiss to not point out that copy pasting messages onto ATT that other tropers send you via PM is against the rules. Either the message should be summarized, or the query should be marked as private when you create it.
As pointed out:
- Please don't post other people's PM text anywhere public. If you need to share it with mods via ATT, the query should be marked private.
- Edit war policy isn't about factual accuracy, it's about avoiding arguments and unilaterally reversed changes. If it's factually wrong but reverting it would mean an edit war, that's the point when getting consensus to agree on the fact and make the change is useful.
Another vote for it not being Vindicated by History for not being disliked to begin with. 2 > 1, but 2 isn't enough to call a consensus here.
Sounds like Remulus is wrong and is trying to die on a hill if they're willing to send you a PM about it. If anything to take away from this thread, is that both Vindicated by History and So Okay, It's Average should be removed and possibly have an editor's note to not readd either entry back.
Are you adding to the discussion on this site, or just taking away from someone else's contributions?^^ I’ll join Tabs in voting that it’s not Vindicated by History, so it’s now 3 > 1.
Going through the contemporary professional reviews I can find on Metacritic
and Rotten Tomatoes
, the film had a very mixed reception on release somewhat leaning towards negative. If I had to throw my hat in the ring I'd say it counts.
Anecdotally I feel like the movie got an average reception and nowadays I still rarely see it come up in conversation. It probably has a loyal following, but I don't see it regarded as the most high-quality Disney fare. I don't think it's a significant enough shift to count.
I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.^Following up on that, most Disney movies have some sort of loyal cult following. But unlike something like, say The Rescuers Down Under, it hasn't become a major opinion or it's vindication become part of it’s identity. Whenever I’ve seen Brother Bear discussed, it’s as an alright film.
Do not mess with creatures which you do not understand.I don't think this is vindicated by history either. It's a film that was regarded as forgettable at time of release that's now only talked about by the very few people who actually like it. It's not that people changed their minds about it. It's just that the people who found it forgettable forgot about it and don't talk about it anymore.
Bigotry will NEVER be welcome on TV Tropes.Yeah, I'd put this as less Vindicated by History and more "largely ignored by everyone that didn't like it."
Like, it never had a notable hatedom or anything. No one's changed their minds on it. It's just become less relevant.

A while back, I added a Vindicated by History example to Brother Bear because I noticed the film seemed to be more liked nowadays then when it first came out, but Remulus recently removed it saying it didn't count if the movie was considered So Okay, It's Average, so I went to ask about it
in the "Is this an example?" thread, but only got one response
from Aegis P.
I decided to readd the example anyway, but Remulus then sent me a DM saying that that Brother Bear remains one of Disney's most forgettable forays from the 00's, plus that I was edit warring.
Can anyone clarify whether Remulus is right or wrong?
