Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
GHWE is where grammar corrections take place. If you didn't get a reply there, you're less likely to get it elsewhere. There's probably not much to comment since last time
.
Though I feel it's worth noting that looking at Arvine
's replies, they are in chronological order, but Bubblepig got skipped over twice.
I don't know what Grammerly is, but surmise it is an app of some sort. I do see some errors in the quoted examples.
1) @troper/Bubblepig: in the first example for Tampering with Food and Drink, "presumed dead" might be clearer as "presumed-dead", and "slip" should be corrected to "sip" in the sentence about her mother drinking the poisoned bevetage. Finally, changing "quote" to "says" would make your sentence's meaning clearer. 2) in the second example for Food Fight, this a long run-on sentence. It should have a few more commas in the first part, and may benefit from being rewritten.
Grammarly is an app where that helps me with grammar issues. But it sometimes has a problem since I'm on the free version. And here is my rewritten version:
- Tampering with Food and Drink: In the end, when Brittney and her presumed-dead mother celebrate their victory, her mother takes a sip of the drink that Brittney hands out to her, she says that the drink is strong. Brittney gives a smug smile and says "They do make them strong here, don't they?", implying that Brittney poisoned her mother to get the money for herself.
- Food Fight: Combine with Cat Fight. During a family dinner with The Ardiente Family, Ivy tries to leave while Emilia refuses to move while holding the cake with the headless wedding topper. Ivy then shoves the cake in Emilia's face, causing a fight to break out between them and the cake to smear on them.
Is my grammar good enough?
Also, I asked once again, am I being punished? Because I think it has something to do with my past behavior. And I'm kinda afraid of being banned for my grammar problems if no one checks my grammar in this forum.
Edited by Bubblepig "Now it's starting to feel like a game!"grammarly isn't perfect, though it can be useful for catching typos or grammar errors that you overlooked. Are you currently using it? if not, you could give it a test run— run your examples through grammarly first, then see if they consistently pass GHWEH.
The revised versions seem mostly fine to me. Although technically, the segment "she says the drink is strong" should either be connected with a conjunction or be its own sentence. Second example seems fine.
I don't think it's a punishment. I don't imagine TV tropes would use "skip this person's posts in the English help thread, but don't tell them you're doing that" as a punishment
Edited by Tremmor19I am currently using Grammarly since about last year but I still want to check on GHWE even though I have Grammarly to make sure. And here is the fixed example
- Tampering with Food and Drink: In the end, when Brittney and her presumed-dead mother celebrate their victory, her mother takes a sip of the drink that Brittney hands out to her. She says that the drink is strong. Brittney gives a smug smile and says "They do make them strong here, don't they?", implying that Brittney poisoned her mother to get the money for herself.
Thoughts?
And also sorry for asking if I was being punished because I feel like I am no longer welcome to GHWE after I was acting entitled.
Edited by Bubblepig "Now it's starting to feel like a game!"Got it, thank you. Also one question, what should I do if one active grammar volunteer still skips my posts again (As in the fifth time) and there isn't another available volunteer to help me in GHWE?
Edited by Bubblepig "Now it's starting to feel like a game!"I mean, objectively Arivne did skip them twice in the last run through as Amonimus mentioned. May not be bad faith, but I think it's valid to worry about not having help.
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallYeah, it does seem like I got skipped by them intentionally five times in a row. And I believe it's not in bad faith. Again, I’m not trying to sound rude and entitled just like the last quarry I talked about it. I am not proud of who I was before. I do appreciate people’s help. I am grateful that some volunteers like Clare helped me with grammar when Arvine skipped me. It is just concerning that Arvine still skips me when there are no other volunteers around.
Edit: I understand if Advine chooses not to check mine, I'm not forcing them to. And I don't blame them since I was entitled long ago. I just need to know when the other volunteers are available in case Arvine skips me again.
Edited by Bubblepig "Now it's starting to feel like a game!"what would be the solution for that, btw? if, say, a volunteer openly stated that they didn't want to help a specific person— obviously they don't have to correct them if they don't want to, but it would add a lot of confusion. Other volunteers might not realize this one person was still needing help, and reposting could clog up the thread
(ideally, this forum would be in a format other than single-thread, though i know that's out of our hands)
Edited by Tremmor19tremmor19 was asking a question but there's no answer yet.
Edited by Bubblepig "Now it's starting to feel like a game!"Possibly because there's no actual answer. Given that it is a volunteer thread, getting answers isn't completely guaranteed.
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallOh, ok. So what should I do? I don't think I want to go back. After all, I'm scared because I feel like I was alienated and I can't tell when other tropers who help me like Clare will be available.
"Now it's starting to feel like a game!"What are you asking for again, exactly?
If it's corrections for your entries, then, aside from the ones pointed out already, the FoodFight example
should say "Combined with Cat Fight".
I can't speak on behalf of the GHWE thread (I only pop up occasionally). My only suggestion is to keep posting periodically.
I was considering to allow examples to be DM'ed to me for grammar checking but that can't be verified publicly in case of edit-banned tropers (if they can even DM me anyway).
(v) Yeah I think locking this would be best at this point.
Edited by BlackFaithStar When you're alone I'm reaching out to let you know that you're far from strangers, like the savior^The correction is over and I'll try to Dm'ed you about my grammar if other tropers are okay with me doing it. And maybe I can try to go back but I afraid it will happen again.
Maybe I should close this query since it's getting a bit longer and open the new query to focus on some unresolved GHWE issues I have. And again, the correction is over anyway.
Agree?
Edited by Bubblepig "Now it's starting to feel like a game!"Bumping one last time, should I close this query and make a new one to focus on some unresolved GHWE issues I have? And may I dm'ed Black Faith Star for grammar check for the meantime?
Edited by Bubblepig "Now it's starting to feel like a game!"I edited my last post to say yes to a lock, since this query's been resolved.
I don't mind DMs, and I'm offering assistance on my own accord here, but when I my respond depends on whenever I'm online. My activity will be less frequent for about a month (with Ramadan tomorrow and my studies in general), please bear this in mind.
When you're alone I'm reaching out to let you know that you're far from strangers, like the saviorOh, sorry I have not seen your update post before. Also thank you, I'll be patient when I'll dm you. I'll probably make a query about the GHWE problem next time anyway. Closing it now.
"Now it's starting to feel like a game!"

So I posted my Get Help With English forum like the one below two days but no one checked it so the next day I reposted it again but still, no one checked it. Is it because it doesn't need to be fixed because of Grammarly or because I was punished for my past actions? Here's the post that I was talking about.
@Wild Things 2
@Wildflower (2017)
Is my grammar good enough to send?
Note: Yes, I am aware that there are other volunteers and I shouldn't rely on one person but two days ago and probably today they were not available. And I am a changed person so I didn't beg in a post nor I do send a pm complaint about something anymore.
