Interclass Friendship for the dynamic you're highlighting

Overlaps with other tropes like Hyper-Competent Sidekick when there's more going on, because there's just so many ways this can be played. The sidekick might be Cloudcuckoolander's Minder or The Jeeves when the character needs a keeper, The Watson to a more experienced or educated companion, or even a Bumbling Sidekick to make the slightly less bumbling hero look good. On the less equitable side, you've got tropes like Beleaguered Assistant and Ignored Enamored Underling putting up with abuse ala Smithers and Chessmaster Sidekick leading their alleged boss around like a mule. All sorts of ways this can go.

I was focusing more on the Sidekick aspect, but Interclass Friendship fits most of the examples, thanks.
