Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
Are there any official sources, like interviews, confirming that Ruby Gillman is based on Neighbours from Hell? If not, then it should be removed as false info.
SING TO ME, LEND ME THE SONG OF BLASPHEMYI find it very dubious that a big-budget Dreamworks flick was based off an obscure, short-lived Flash animated sitcom, even if they did share the same creator. It's certainly possible that the writer was inspired to use the same plot point by her previous work, but "non-humans have to disguise themselves as humans and live a normal life" is not an original idea.
I've undone the edit to Trivia.Top Wing, since the identity of the vandal is irrelevant and the shoehorned edit was ungrammatical to boot — the series didn't spring from a hoax.
Mayormontagu has also committed an edit war on the Neighbors from Hell by repeatedly adding that information.
They then also added a list of similarities under Shout-Out
Edited by dcutter2In their PM to me, they also admitted that they were, indeed, the "high school student from upstate New York" as Sudric theorized. So that can be axed if it hasn't already.
"Sorta true information" pretty much all but solidifies that they can't back their claims up with legitimate proof, as well.
Edited by ilovewildkratts1 Wuewuewuewuewueing my way to the bank.Just bumping this as Mayormontagu has edited
the claim back into Trivia.NeighborsFromHell.
They don't seem to have been cleared by edit banned, so were they actually suspended?
Should the edit on Trivia.Neighbors From Hell be reverted, then? They haven't responded back to me since the 27th with anything to back up their claims, though if they were still making edits pre-ban then I don't have much hope of a response.
I'll pose the same question for the edits they've made between the 27th and the 30th, too — there are a few English errors within them, and as discussed, they're erroneous without proof to back them up. One's an Expy entry that should probably be taken to the appropriate cleanup thread.
Edited by ilovewildkratts1 Wuewuewuewuewueing my way to the bank.Another troper got to some of the edits first and reverted them, but I took care of the rest. Might be a few stragglers but I think I got them all.
I'll take the Expy example to the cleanup thread. I'd have axed them but I figured going through the thread first wouldn't hurt.
Wuewuewuewuewueing my way to the bank.Mayormontagu PM'd me about shout outs. Not sure what it means.
My one edit citing this thread was under Trivia.Neighbors From Hell, but the PM subject is "Your recent edit for: Ruby Gillman Teenage Kraken", where the edit I made, removing a YMMV they added to the non YMMV page, had nothing to do with such. I did some formatting under the YMMV page but didn't change any of the content.
Bringing here because it might be an ongoing issue.
I cut Shout-Out from the Neighbors from Hell page because it was talking about Ruby Gilman, naturally a series can't contain shout outs to project that was yet to be made when it came out. Is that what they are referencing maybe?
^^ They PMed me about the same thing, presumably because you and I have been reverting edits of theirs. But I removed a Shout-Out entry on the main Ruby Gillman page.
I told them I had removed their entry because the way it's worded seemed more like a list of coincidences and less like actual shout-outs, and because there were numerous English errors within the entry itself.
Wuewuewuewuewueing my way to the bank. For what it's worth, there's also a Fact Checking Thread
.

I noticed on the other wiki's page
for Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken, there is a dubious claim that the movie was based on Neighbors from Hell, and it links back to the movie's page on this very wiki. The page was edited to include the "fact" on January 24
by Mayormontagu, who seems to have a history of spreading dubious claims about various kids cartoons, such as Kiff
.
There's even an admission of guilt on this edit
to Trivia.Top Wing. There was a hoax that some 90s alternative musicians worked on Top Wing, and Mayormontagu edited it to say that it "sprang from a hoax preprtrated [sic] by a high school student from upstate New York." That high school student from upstate New York must be Mayormontagu.
