My personal preference is listing every instance of a trope if possible, while "does a lot" with 1-2 noteworthy examples being acceptable.

Yeah, I don't see anything wrong with the way the Bob's Burgers page is written; a lot more informative and interesting this way.

Yeah, this is definitely better.

But isn't listing every instance of Couch Gag more akin to listing the parts that change (i.e. "The store next door has a different name in every episode"), not every single instance of that change? Because for Long-Runners that just isn't plausible. That's something the Bob's Burgers wiki already does. It's like listing every single instance of a Character Catchphrase.

"It's like listing every single instance of a Character Catchphrase"

Yeah it's like that and it's included in my argument.

If a Character Catchphrase somehow changed each time, it'd make sense to list variations. Otherwise yeah it's just a kin to listing everytime someone says a line, which is pointless. But here, the trope is that the scene is different each time, often in ways relevant to the episode, so I don't know if it makes sense as a comparison.

I don't see the issue in catching as much relevant information as possible. I understand your argument, you're claiming that there are only three examples of couch gag: the exterminator, the sign, and the Creative Closing Credits.

While the gags can be summed up as there only being three gags themselves, it doesn't change the fact that Couch Gag gets used each time, and as such gets used a bit differently. "Sustainable" doesn't really seem relevant here as perfect is the enemy of better and I'd rather the wiki be incomplete than actively avoiding relevant information.

I've misunderstood.

Each Couch Gag is unique but Character Catchphrase is shared across the series. I don't believe they are comparable.

I do get the argument, but this just feels like it would be a massive effort that would result in any show with a Couch Gag effectively needing its own subpage to be chronicled with every single instance the theme changes. And in the case of something like Bob's Burgers, whose opening gags are very simple (the Creative Closing Credits are more involved), it just amounts to a repetitive list that could be found on its relevant wiki.

I mean, no show has to do it this way. But if people want to, I also don't see a reason to cut it down.

Okay I overreacted to that. That can stay.

As comparison, CouchGag.The Simpsons only lists the "notable" iterations of the gag (which is still a pretty long list).

... no? This is just such a weird take. The existence of this page, which is done and maintained by someone who cares, doesn't somehow compel us to do the same for every work that has a Couch Gag. This Is A Wiki and this Couch Gag page just has more information than others because users have chosen to add more.

It would be a larger concentrated effort to cut the page, dewick it, then reconstitute it into a new Couch Gag writeup to take its place than to allow the page to function as it's been doing for presumably years.

Even with the page being outdated (the show is on season 13 or 14 and the page is only up to 10), it's still more data and I fail to see the problem to the point where you're pushing for less.

Alright, my issue was more with consistency, as I assume we want most subpages to be formatted the same way and this page implies something different about what constitutes proper context for a Couch Gag. I know it's not a hard and fast rule, but we tend to only split off a subpage if we really need it, so making one page for what is essentially one very long example just stood out to me. If it's not an issue then that's fine, though other editors can do the same for other shows if they so desire. Does my point of view at least make sense?

I see where you're coming from, but I think if someone pours the love into detailing it like this, that's it's only to everyone benefit to allow it to stay since it's not getting in the way of other example or anything. Just a very through documenting.

I suppose it depends on whether or not you see it as one long, detailed example, or a bunch of separate examples. I can see Couch Gag working either way, so I wouldn't be too concerned.
