The example itself is pretty weak and needs to be expanded or deleted (specifically, what does this role have to do with Islamophobic tweets?), but at some point we're really going to need to sit down and make some across the wiki policies on handling the Gaza situation insofar as it actually affects tropes.

The conflation of Israel and Jews, as well as Palestine and Hamas is probably a bigger issue than this wiki and I think the example as a whole should be cut due to Rule of Cautious Editing Judgement for the time being.

The thing is, calling it genocide is really pushing it... which doesn't necessarily mean it's wrong to call it genocide, but it's absolutely not a given by any stretch.

Considering that the mods banned discussion of the conflict in the forums (see here and here), and considering that Tara Strong's Wikipedia page contains this:

Dismissal from Boxtown cast

After the 2023 Israel–Hamas war began, Strong claimed that Hamas had "brainwashed the western world" to support terrorism.[24] She also stated that people can "help Palestine without supporting terrorism"[25] and expressed support for Israel.[26]

Strong's posts on Twitter and her likes on others' posts relating to the war on the social network, particularly her opinions on the government of Israel's bombing of the Gaza Strip,[27] garnered controversy and criticism, which led independent animation studio Bandit Mill Animation to remove her from the production of their upcoming series Boxtown and recast a role for a character she would have voiced. They explained on their official Twitter page that "this decision was due to a trend among Tara's recent online activity, including posts that promote controversial messages regarding the peoples of Palestine currently being affected by the ongoing Israel-Palestine crisis."[28]

After her removal, Strong claimed that she was "fired for being Jewish". This was refuted by a co-writer of Boxtown's pilot, Spencer Rothbell, who pointed out that several Boxtown cast and crew members are Jewish, including himself and voice actor Alex Hirsch, the latter who is voicing a lead character in the series.[29]

I think that the entry in question should be axed for violating the ROCEJ.

TBH, we may just need to put a restriction on this like we did with Ukraine.

^Agreed with this. Cut the example for ROCEJ.

Yeah, or at least there was. Dunno if it's still active but we wanted to keep the issue off the wiki until things settled.

^It was technically never rescinded AFAIK but the furor about it seems to have died down: I never got any replies over a couple of Harsher in Hindsight examples I had added to YMMV.Radio Tapok and self-reported after I found out about the moratorium.

The connection feels too weak to necessitate an entry anyway (I know Clara is comically racist and homophobic but the entry doesn't explain if she's made any Islamophobic comments in the show, and IIRC the show took potshots at Israel in the movie via a Fun with Acronyms metaphor, not to mention the implication that enjoying voicing a racist character who is meant to be in the wrong is a red flag that you are a racist).

I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.

I agree with the connection being too weak and this violating the ROCEJ, so I think it can be removed.

Agree with those who say that it's a really weak example and should be cut regardless.

There's five (six, if I am reading WarJay's posts here right) people for cutting the example and no objections, so I'm going to cut the example.

Edit: done.
