Hating someone still makes you a jerk, justified or not, especially if it carries to your behavior.

The observation that Adult Hater has a lot of "justified" or "mutual" examples is interesting (may imply a potential new trope), but doesn't mean something needs to be done.

I guess. However I did notice that the majority of child haters are usually never nice people while some adult haters at least had sympathetic reasons behind it.

In fairness, I do notice that only 10-20% of adult haters come off as unsympathetic brats.

Hating adults in general isn't really rationnal (it's not like people could stop from getting older), which is probably why it counts as a "jerk" trope.

To be fair neither is hating children (in fact hating children is much worse in my opinion, especially since children at least have the excuse that their brains are underdeveloped and they are too immature and naive to know better regarding their actions).

I mean I guess I am being biased here. I only came here for a question and I got the answers I needer to hear, so I'm done. Thanks guys.

It's simply that I believe "Jerk" isn't a morality statement but is attitude-based.

A person can dislike all adults without making it a problem for them, and i think they'd be perfectly justified in doing so. That's not harming anyone.

But hating kids, whether you make it a kid's problem or not, doesn't have any excuse to me. Kids don't know better and only become screwed in the head if their parents aren't doing their job right. Any rational adult would have the critical thinking skills to know this.

That said, i agree that "Adult Hater" should be removed from the Jerk index if we're not putting examples like "I distrust grown ups because they've wronged me my whole life" somewhere else. Thats a WAY different beast from "Adults are STINKY POOS, I'll never be one!". But hey, what do i know?

^ I agree with you, but I don't think anyone on here is going to disagree with us about how hating children is worse than hating adults. Also, the people who hate kids are usually never nice people 90% of the time.

Indexes don't have to be how the trope is played 100% of the time. However, kids who hate adults can and sometimes are played as jerks, so the trope warrants being on The Jerk Index because it's a big and common way the trope is played.

Since Adult Hater pertains children hating adults as portrayed in fiction (since the page is NRLEP), and many such portrayals lean on the jerk side (regardless of whether it's justified or not), then it fits for the index, so I oppose removing the page from it.
