What's the question?

The Aliens example is still ZCE because it doesn't actually tell what's happening in the scene. If you didn't know it's from Five-Finger Fillet page, the information would be as good as useless (and still is).

Yeah, ZCE is not "no text whatsoever". That's still lacking in any useful context.

Five-Finger Fillet is on the TRS Queue for ZCE problems — Crossover-Enthusiast queued it up. TBH when the thread launches I was planning to call for cutting and yarding due to the extremely low number of examples with context, but I'll save that for the TRS thread.

Yeah, I was the one who commented the examples out — "character does this" is not adequate context, especially for a trope as simple as "Jane stabbed a knife between her fingers to show how tough she is". If far less examples are visible because of context issues, then that shows a clear problem with the trope.

It's less the trope being broken, and more people stubbornly refusing to understand that they have to properly explain stuff, even on the trope's page, not just list the works where they saw it. Of course it's gonna lead to massive amount of ZCEs if enough works gets listed by same people.

I didn’t say it was the trope’s problem.

I said that there aren’t enough examples with context to keep as is.

EDIT: Thought it over some more and I’m not fond of my original argument. I’ll refrain from commenting until the TRS.

I saw a lot of examples listed as ZCE, which points to there being some kind of an an issue, so I wanted to bring it to attention. If it's already on the TRS Queue, then it's clearly already in the process of being addressed.

Um, Crossover-Enthusiast? You forgot to make up an OP for the thread and post that on the queue sandbox. It's number 80 on the list as of this post, so it'll be a while before it goes live, but it still needs a post actually explaining the issues with the trope for its thread.

Until next time...

I edited the Aliens example; hopefully it's explained well enough now.

This is probably out of scope for this question but the ZCE rules as is make sense for when the trope list on a work page.

But when the example is on the tropes' page when if you're wondering what the trope is... scroll up and read the description. Five finger fillet doesn't need to be given full context every time because the context is above.

It does need to because the context is the example itself, and yes arguing against ZCE policy is for Wiki Talk.

That just reiterates policy. It doesn't address my point.

Yes on a work page the example is the only context, on a trope page it clearly isn't.

That's incorrect. Examples need full context regardless of where they are. Word Cruft like "X does this" isn't acceptable anywhere.

Anyway, as mentioned, ZCE policy discussion is a matter for Wiki Talk and this specific trope is already being taken to TRS, so locking.
