When I was in elementary school, the teacher told us a story that went a little something like this:
One day, a man left his vast number of sons and pregnant wife to go hunting...and disappeared. His wife gave birth a few months later and eventually the child grew up. When he learned to speak, he asked "Where is my father?" Realizing that they hadn't seen their father in years, the older sons set out to find him.
The sons followed the trail (they lost it a few times, but always were able to locate it again) and eventually found their father's skeletal remains. One by one, the sons revealed that together they had the knowledge or power to bring their father back to life and did so. After resurrecting him, they brought him back to town.
The father then decided to leave his family and become a monk. While giving away his prized possessions, he decided to give his most prized possession to the son who was most helpful in his resurrection. A debate ensued among the sons and their friends who that could be. Was it the first one to find the trail when they lost it? The one who reconstructed his skeleton? The one who restored his ability to speak?
No, he gave it to the son who wasn't even born yet when he left because if he hadn't asked "Where is my father?", they never would have went to look for him.
Does anyone know what this story is? I think it might be Literature or Mythology.
