Here's a helpful thread. But I think I can answer this one:

  • Purple Prose is for overly ornate prose that intrudes the narrative, often due to an extravagant or distracting description of mundane events, or by the excessive use of adjectives/metaphors which, while intended to enhance the drama, betray a feeling of pretentiousness.
  • Sesquipedalian Loquaciousness is when a character's speech pattern is characterized by the frequent use of long, complicated words. This is often a trait of "smart" characters, as it distinguishes them from their peers by simultaneously displaying both their intellect and a lack of social skills.
