The paragragh about Racer X that Nerd added reeks of "why isn't this trope named after him but named after Char?"

That being said, I don't think the long paragraph about the history of Char is necesssary either.

Yea, that bit about Racer X shows a fundamental lack of understanding of what an Expy is. The paragraph about the history of char is not needed but it doesn't hurt the page either. It probably belongs on the analysis tab or perhaps there should be a link to the gundam character section

I don't think Racer X belongs on the page. He's not part of the expy cycle. He's just a coincidence.

Creating this query makes the discussion quite easier, thanks Native Jovian, it was quite smart of you. n__n

A] There seems to be a general consensus that the story is not really necessary part of the trope, which makes this one point less to discuss.

As pointed out in the edit page, people who want to know about Char can go to Characters/Gundam and read about him.

B] The problem I'm having with this trope is that the combination of ALL the attribute's of a Expy of Char is a trope of its own, even without Char.

It's like creating a page were every Idiot Hero with Anime Hair is a Son Goku Expy. (Yusuke, Luffy ,Naruto, Ichigo, Ben 10, Ash Ketchum... I could go on)

The fact that a popular character makes a trope popular, and that some Expy of him exist, doesn't mean that every character who has those traits is an expy of him.

Nerd At Computer, I'd really start a trs for Char Clone before making the changes you're making. The point of this trope is that these are characters unambiguously and deliberately based off of Char, not Racer X. What you're doing is changing the definition of the trope. Also, here's the previous trs thread and there's a comment on the page "only list an example if the character is a deliberate expy! A character with one or two vague similarities doesn't count.".

@Captain: Yup, you are probably right about the trs. Sorry. u__u

In my opinion, the best solution would be doing it two ways: creating a separeted trope for characters like this (Cool-Masked Racer Villan? IDK, I'm not good at names) and deleting ALL the ambiguos examples that are there. (like protoman, who was actually based on Racer X).

Then move most of the description (cool mask, fast pilot) to the new trope, and adding more Char specific data. (like the "3 times faster").

Yea, a separate trope for characters like Racer x seems appropriate. In the mean while it's best to revert the page back to the way it was before and cutlist the Racer X Clone redirect.
