Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
I dont think Jojo is a Mon series. And there is a collecting angle to Megaman: The Battle Chips.
Discord: Waido X 255#1372 If you cant contact me on TV Tropes do it here.We have a Laconic Description Improvement thread to discuss problematic laconics. It doesn't need TRS.
yeah, Mega Man Battle Network is a deckbuilding action RPG, not a Mons game. there's virus-collecting sidequests in some of the games, but Gotta Catch 'Em All does apply to those - and to the chips, for that matter.
are you defining a Navi as a mon? cause i don't think i agree with that, at least not gameplay-wise.
I also agree with Chloe Jessica.
Discord: Waido X 255#1372 If you cant contact me on TV Tropes do it here.Hmm...look like we need to weed out some misuse then.
There's one minor detail unclear however, what about a work which character only acquire only one mon? So no collecting but otherwise fit the theme well? (I'm thinking of Kamen Rider Ryuki).
Just a reminder to always read the full trope description, laconics are only quick representations of a concept and should not be taken as a summary. If the trope page fails, that's a subject for Trope Talk.
Mon is effectively "other creatures are the main power source (and remain alive) in the setting". Ryuki fits Type 3.
And I don't see collection part even mentioned in the description except for general example of Type 1.
Also So You Want To is a part of JFF namespace and isn't supposed to be taken seriously.
Edited by Amonimus TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupIt's most likely an old Fan Myopia artifact from the early days of TV Tropes that was enforced by Pokémon since it has the largest influence over the Mons genre. Really, collection being a requirement is arbitrary and already covered by another trope: Gotta Catch Them All.
The "all" in the title isn't just for a quote. You can have collecting in a show without collecting uniques as a goal. Pokemon the game is GCTA, but the anime isn't.
From the article:
Umm, I don't know if am wrong for asking this but, shouldn't this conversation continue in Trope Talk? I mean, the AT&T is getting kinda long and I don't think this is the right place to discuss this kind of thing.
^ Yeah, you are right. This is getting a bit long, and it needs some clarification (and, in my opinion, the initial question has already been answered).
Yo soy el futuro, luwawanu mu sadila kisalasala kio.
I hope it doesn't need TRS, but Laconic.Mon, say this.
"Monsters you can collect and fight with."
I originally want to change it since Gotta Catch Them All surely isn't essential to the genre, else series like JoJo's Bizarre Adventure and Mega Man Battle Network will be disqualified since the characters don't collect the monsters and just stick to the one they start with throughout the show (even how they acquire the first mon is rarely show in the work). But then I remember that even the SoYouWantTo.Write A Mon Series say Gotta Catch Them All is "Inevitably" (but not essential).
Are those two pages wrong, or they're right and all non-collectible series are misused?
