Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread

Are you're questioning Pragmatic Adaptation example at Kirby Light Novel? They say "Novels that are based on games" and explain why the trope applies. I don't see Compressed Adaptation there.
- Pragmatic Adaptation: Cut content because it wouldn't work in the medium it's adapted into.
- Compressed Adaptation: Cut content because it needs to be a specific length, typically for TV episode.
- Adaptation Distillation: Cut content because the adaptation author thought it's unnecessary and settles on a more simple plot.
- Adaptation Expansion: Same story but new content.
You can add or edit the page depending which to which apply, maybe using a labelnote would also be a good idea.
Also assume nobody here have read the novels, so the list of novels makes the question harder to read, only how they compare to the games matters. If some novels have entirely original plot then they don't get these Adaptation tropes.
Edited by Amonimus TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupThe novels, as a whole, fit Adaptation Deviation, the super trope. The novels themselves should be assigned to the sub tropes on a case-by-case basis.

I already briefly talked about this with someone else via P Ms earlier, but to cut right to the chase: from what I've personally read from start-to-finish, a lot of the novel adaptations based on the games don't adapt everything, so they're "compressed" by that very nature. Some others seem to be "pragmatic" solely because either certain elements are chosen not to get adapted mostly because it wouldn't work with the medium or the elements that are included in books like "Kirby's Labyrinth Rescue" don't strictly come from one single game. I must admit, the "Laconic" wording for both tropes was kind of confusing, so this is the best way I can think of trying to describe both instances in my own words.
For reference, out of the 25 volumes that are currently released (or about to release), the following 11 volumes are direct adaptations of the games. These ones most likely qualify as "compressed" adaptations, even if there are some elements that only appear in these novels: - 星のカービィ ロボボプラネットの大冒険! [Kirby and the Great Planet Robobot Adventure!] [Decisive Battle! Battle Royale!!] [Kirby Star Allies: The Great Friend Adventure!] [Kirby Star Allies: The Universe is in Trouble?!] [Big Trouble in Patch Land!] の巻 [Super Team Kirby's Great Battle!] [Kirby Fighters: The Destined Rivals!!] [Lor Starcutter and a Magician of Falsehood] - 星のカービィ ディスカバリー 新世界へ走り出せ!編 [Kirby and the Forgotten Land: Start Running to the New World!] [Kirby and the Forgotten Land: Break Out of the Dream of Isolated Isles!]
These 6 volumes are mostly their own thing, but do feature the occasional element from the game here-and-there: - 星のカービィ あぶないグルメ屋敷!? [Kirby and the Dangerous Gourmet Mansion?!] [Kirby and the Big Panic in Gloomy Woods!] の巻 [Kirby Meets the Squeak Squad!] [Meta Knight and the Puppet Princess] - 星のカービィ プププランドで大レース!の巻 [Big Race in Pupupu Land!] [King Dedede's Great Escape Mission!]
These 8 volumes, while based on game content and/or certain Japanese merchandising events, pretty much tell a unique overarching story through-and-through. The volumes listed here most likely are intended to be "pragmatic adaptations": - 星のカービィ 大迷宮のトモダチを救え! [Meta Knight and the Galaxy's Greatest Warrior] - 星のカービィ 虹の島々を救え!の巻 [Save the Rainbow Islands!] [Kirby and the Search for the Dreamy Gears!] [Meta Knight and the Knight of Doom] - 星のカービィ カービィカフェは大さわぎ!? [Uproar at the Kirby Café?!] [The Mysterious Incident on the Pupupu Train?!] [Welcome to the Starlight Theatre!]
And now I ask you: what do you think would work best? Listing all the volumes as compressed adaptations? Listing them all as pragmatic adaptations? Or deciding which is which on a case-by-case basis?
