for feedback than to do it all by yourself.
If the image was chosen by the IP, then most likely, so was the caption. So yes, it's better to ask the thread
The answer is "assume no".
Note, you're not supposed to edit images without IP apporval, at all.

I know we're not supposed to edit the images for pages put up by mods, but are we allowed to edit captions?
