... Nnno, The Chick is specifically a traditionally feminine character, who keeps the team together, is its "heart," etc. It's not even always played by a woman in more recent works, and is rarely the Number Two. And Team Mom is something different as well.
I'm talking about something more straightforward. You take a look at all the shows made in the 90's and later, or so, that feature a team of protagonists working together with some sort of command structure — be they a crew of Space Pirates, or a Mildly Military team, or whatever. 99% of the shows will have the leader of the team be male. And in a large number of these shows the Number Two will be female. She won't necessarily be The Chick at all (in Stargate SG 1 she's The Smart Guy, for example) and she doesn't have to be the Team Mom either...
I think this pattern itself is a trope. I'm just wondering if we have it. I've not been able to find it, but I want to be sure before I take it to YKTTW.

In works that feature a team of protagonists with a more-or-less well-defined hierarchy, I've noticed that there's a tendency to give the second-in-command position to a female character. Seen It A Million Times. Is there a trope for this?
If not, what would be a good way to trope it? It seems like a meaningful pattern to me — like an attempt to make the genders appear more equal, while still keeping the tradition of making the leader male, or a way to give a woman a position of at least some leadership in a setting (historical, modern-day military, etc.) where men usually just are the ones in charge.
