Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help. It's not for everything, though. a unilateral move is when a page is moved to a different name or namespace without consulting others first, and is generally frowned upon as it can cause issues on other parts of the site if nobody is told about it in advance. even if you fix the index links and whatnot, it still affects people's Following lists and can make it harder to find through searching. you need to gain consensus before you make a move so that people can work together on the move and have advance notice. see also How to Move a Page

The clearest example of a botched GateStarX move is Characters.Batman The Joker, which was a straight move from ComicBook. The Joker despite obviously not being fit for a Characters/ page. (And to make matters worse, GateStarX also botched the wick cleanup. At least the SelfDemonstrating/ wicks are mostly gone...)

Things like adding and removing trope entries, fixing spelling/indentation/the like, changing plot details in an entry, and other minor edits usually do not need to be discussed beforehand. (I say usually because there's tropes like Complete Monster who need to be approved first)

Moving entire character sections from one page to another, moving pages, and other edits that drastically change the content or name of the page are better to do with consensus, especially if you're collaborating with other people in a larger cleanup effort. Doing these things without asking is rude and can potentially lead to problems if nobody agrees with the change and have to clean up what you did in addition to the actual cleanup.

Like—-you say you leave edit reasons explaining what you did. Why can't you instead tell people what you want to do on the thread first? If you personally feel like you shouldn't have to do this, maybe collaborative cleanup efforts just aren't your thing, you get me?
