Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
Unfortunately, people don't look at discussion pages very often. Typically the correct thing to do in your situation is to post here in ask the tropers. Just explain your edits, mention who reverted them so that they can be invited to the discussion if they want to participate, and people can work it out. You have to explain what's going on though. The edit history for that character page looks pretty busy.
Bigotry will NEVER be welcome on TV Tropes. So basically on the SSU character page I created links to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Spider-Man (1967) pages using the Alternate Self trope for characters that appear in those two things and the SSU. My logic was that the first Venom film specifically states that Spider-Verse took place in an Alternate Universe (instead of just randomly showing it as a teaser at the end like Multiverse of Madness in No Way Home) and therefore we should take that as canon until someone official says otherwise, but J Rads 47 says that since an official crossover hasn't happened yet they shouldn't be considered AU to each other. However they only removed these links in the Spider-Man character folder and didn't undo my edits for the other characters or removed similar links on the main SSU page. So if people agree with JRads47 that's fine I just need to know so I can remove the stuff they didn't, but if people agree with me this way I can show I did follow the rules and I can add my edits back.
Edited by JTR01I am not super familiar with the films but if they are canonically in a alternate universe, I guess your edits are fine.
Macron's notesThere's two credit scenes in Venom with one showing Venom meeting Carnage, and another saying "Meanwhile, in another universe..." before showing Miles from Into the Spider-Verse. Again if it didn't say it was an AU I would treat it as a teaser but since they say that I think it's canon. Do you think that's enough?
Edited by JTR01Not sure if a crossover is needed or not. However, the "assuming" phrasing makes the example sound speculative. If it isn't completely clear that they are AU counterparts, then the example might not be valid
- Alternate Self: Assuming that he's Peter Parker, he has many across The Multiverse. He has counterparts on Earth-67, Earth-89521, Earth-96283, Earth-120703, Earth-199999 and on several undesignated Earths.
I get your point but really the only other option is Miles Morales and since Peter's costume was used in the trailer there's a good chance it's him until Sony confirms otherwise. I know that scene was deleted and he was only mentioned in the actual film, so if it makes you feel better I could say something like "The identity of Spider-Man is used by many people in The Multiverse" and then create links to the other pages.
But also I did the same thing in the Rhino and Black Cat folders where I said that I was assuming Black Cat is Felica Hardy and Rhino is Aleksei Sytsevich. But unlike Spider-Man that aren't any other characters who used those identities except Alex O'Hirn who is simply an AU of Aleksei. So are those not valid either?
Maybe you can get input from the media thread https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=15524244890A42622400
It's mostly memes for the last few days of posts, but who knows.
Edited by TabsGuess not. I'll say here though that unless it's explicitly pointed to on-screen, it's better not to link the other works with Alternate Self with assumptions and speculation. This has been a problem on some MCU pages.
There are also threads explicitly for cleaning up MCU pages where you can raise the issue; one for the MCU as a whole and one specifically for Character pages.
In my own personal opinion, I wouldn't put too much weight on Venom's claim. It's not an MCU film and was made before the continuities were connected with each other, and the "in another universe" caption was really just an excuse to cross-promote Spider-Verse rather than being plot-relevant. Too many degrees of separation, if you ask me.
But this doesn’t have anything to do with the MCU, it’s about the SSU and only the SSU. I accept the logic why there aren’t links on the MCU pages to Into the Spider-Verse, and even if it was an excuse to cross-promote that doesn’t stop it from being canon to the SSU while making it an example of Schrödinger's Canon to the MCU.
Also in regards to your point 𝕋𝕒𝕓𝕤, do you mean just in regards to Spider-Man or all the characters? Because like I said unlike Spider-Man there aren’t any other people who use the Black Cat and Rhino identities in the comics so I don’t know if I’m wrong to assume they are the same as in the comics.
Edited by JTR01You should not assume.
I've made an edit. I removed Alternate Self from the Black Cat and Chameleon folder since while the characters appeared in other stuff it was only in their civilian identities but with Spider-Man and Rhino I said that while the identities were used in other stuff that doesn't mean they are the exact same people. Does that work better?
My fault, I had misread the question. For some reason, I thought you were adding to the MCU pages based on its connection to the SSU and, in turn, to Spider-Verse.
So I created a discussion on Sony's Spider-Man Universe because someone undid my edits on the character page and they wouldn't respond to my PMs. However nobody has noticed it even though I left an edit with a reason saying I made one and honestly since it's the SSU I doubt anyone will check to see if there is a discussion. So is there some way I can get my discussion noticed like on a forum, because the way I see it if people agree with the troper who undid my edits then other stuff like it have to be removed from the SSU pages but if they agree with me I can add my edits back without being accused of edit warring.
