This might have been the plot of an episode of Dalziel and Pascoe from around the turn the millenium - rings a very vague bell. I recall one of the suspects was an actress (who later went on to play one of Ken Barlow's girlfriends in Coronation Street); in this show she lived in a caravan and was a murder supect.
Male, early sixties, Cranky old fart, at least two decades behind. So you have been warned. Functionally illiterate in several languages.
The show was UK and from around the early 200’s / late 90’s – I think it was one of the last episodes in a series and the main “cop” was not in it – (probably why I can’t remember the show) the plot of this episode was a documentary team turn up to “investigate” an old case – a stabbing in a caravan. The caravan has remained empty over the years. The documentary team are shadowed by a lawyer or cop who is dragged back into the investigation. The case is - a couple were living in the caravan on the caravan park. They had been on a night out and when they returned to the caravan one was “accidentally” stabbed in the back. The accused man was sent to prison and insists on his innocence– the accused insists he never knew of the stab wound. Both men went to bed – one pours the other a last brandy as a night cap - and then they went to sleep. In the morning one man wakes to find the body lying in bed in a pool of blood. As the episode unfolds the true story of that night is told in flashbacks. As the episode progresses further there’s a growing sense that the investigation wasn’t thorough and that the man imprisoned may be telling the truth –up till the end those investigating and re-enacting for the documentary are split with some convinced that there is enough doubt and others not.
AS I recall shown if flash backs are different moments from the couple’s night out – one is flirting with everyone and the other seems jealous. The woman that ran the pub or club is not as forthcoming as you’d expect. And one of the two main characters his young daughter was present in the caravan and woke up during an argument, that’s when the fatal wound occurred. The injured man shrugs off the injury and says it’s nothing as a way to comfort the girl.
Any ideas what series this was from?
