Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
The note is weird, they seem to be arguing that since the creator essentially paywalled them, they are somehow to be treated as private, and not as work that the creator sold for money in the grand tradition of pretty much every artist ever.
I'd remove it personally.
I didn't choose the troping life, the troping life chose mePutting something on Patreon is not different from selling tickets to a performance. I think that the difference between private and public material is not in whether you have to pay for the content (or we’d not basically not be able to trope any work that's still under copyright) but in whether there’s some sort of vetting of the audience so that not everyone who is willing to pay for the content is allowed to see it.
It's not like you're posting the whole comic on the trope page as that'd be plagiarism. You're probably allowed to just talk about the content if you don't post screenshots or anything else that would be technical piracy.
I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe. If the examples are not providing the context, then it is correct to cut them for being Zero Context Examples.
That said, content being behind a paywall does not have any bearing on whether it's tropable to my knowledge. Books and movies need to be bought before they can be experienced as well.
Edited by DarkHunterThe closest we have to such a policy is ^ but folks can decide on their own if content on a different access tier should be hidden in some way (this is the case for RWBY and was for Naruto while it was running). If otherwise correct (meaning not-ZCE) examples were unilaterally removed, then they can be reverted.
Yes, if the context isn't apparent without following a link off-site, then it's a ZCE, irrespecitve of whether there's a paywall or not. Open links are just as bad as Patreon ones.
Apart from that, Patreon is just like any paywalled source. "Private content" means that the creator limits access based on other criteria than if you pay or not. Patreon is open to anyone who is willing to pay, so it's not any more private than e.g. Netflix.
Edited by GnomeTitanJust restore the examples with full context that were cut for this reason (though the ^^ one has no edit reason so it may warrant a notifier)
TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupApparently, they were sent a message
.
Sorry to bring this up again, but on the heartwarming page, examples relating to the Patreon exclusive content were commented out (not by the same person who did the earlier edits). I’ve sent them a link to this thread.

On the pages for Everyone Is Home, there’s a note saying not to add Patreon exclusive content. There was a prior discussion
on a similar matter but I’m not sure if an official decision was made.
